Across the road is Brig Tavern. Once a grocer’s shop, it is now a pub.

The large, detached house behind the post box coming up on the right is Norton House. This was an old shipping agent whose job it was to maximise revenue for the ships by filling them with the most valuable cargo.

The operating company known as S.H.Ohlsen and Co. began further down the Firth in 1869 and opened the Methil branch a few years later. They mainly explorted coal and imported wood pulp for paper and timber until closing in 1977. Did you know Methil exported the largest amount of coal in Britain fuelling the British Empire.
