Point 2

Welcome to Leven Promenade! This is one of the finest promenades in Scotland offering tremendous views of the Firth of Forth and Largo Law, the lumpy hill in the distance.

This is a great place for birdwatching, also known as “Twitching”!

  • Coastal Birds: The promenade runs alongside a long stretch of sandy beach and coastal waters, making it an ideal spot to observe seabirds. Common sightings include gulls, terns, and waders such as oystercatchers, redshanks, and curlews. During certain times of the year, you might also spot more unusual species like the little tern or Arctic skua.
  • Migratory Birds: Leven Promenade is a good place to observe migratory birds, especially during the spring and autumn migration periods. The area’s location on the Firth of Forth makes it a strategic resting and feeding spot for various species on their migratory paths.
  • Resident Birds: Aside from migratory species, several resident birds can be spotted throughout the year. Species such as the common eider, cormorants, and various species of ducks and geese are often seen.

Continue along the promenade.

Riddle Time
I come in many colours and sometimes I'm round, I make a crunching sound when I'm found on the ground. I’m tiny and countless, but together I’m vast, I cover the beaches, both present and past. What am I?
