The sunken garden on the left used to be a public swimming pool. You can see a picture of it on the nearly panel and also here.
If you’d really like to swim, you can do so at the Levenmouth Leisure Centre, next to the Railway Station – a bit warmer than the old outdoor pool was. Or you can get the full wild swimming experience at the beautiful, sandy Leven Beach – one of the best on this stretch of coast.
Make your way down the stairs to the middle where you will find the Mercat Cross. This sculpture was erected in 2000 to mark the Millennium. Based on Leven’s old Mercat cross, its four faces incorporate designs suggested by local schoolchildren who also chose the contents of the time capsule which is buried beneath it.
